Located in an abandoned marble quarry in the small town of Roselle, Le Nuove Thermae utilizes the innate qualities of the land and quarry to drive its design resulting in a scheme that abides with the geometric alignments of the site. As such, a grandiose structure is born, both carving into the marble and building out from it. Its monumentality represents the project’s importance as a cultural site for both the local people and visiting tourists, generated by a transcendental experience made for through the unique employment of materiality and light resulting in a modern rendition of a traditional bath.
These four sectional axonometric diagrams each depict one of four important spaces located within the project; the central circulation/reception space, hot baths, mixed baths, and the private baths. Furthermore, they are meant to distinguish between spaces that are carved into the marble compared to the exposed constructed elements.
